Gwinnett Daily Post
The Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team earned its second victory in as many days by sweeping NCAA Division III foe Covenant College (Ga.) on Saturday at the GGC Tennis Facility, 9-0.
The Grizzlies (2-0) were less than 24 hours removed from their program-opening win on Friday over the Savannah College of Art and Design.
The team picked up right where it left off, dropping just two total games all afternoon to the Scots (0-1).
"It feels good to be 2-0 on the season," GGC head coach Chase Hodges said. "Our guys came out today and took care of business in a timely fashion. We started well and really never let off the gas."
The Grizzlies posted three 8-0 decisions in doubles to open play, as the teams of Erik Moberg/Tony Kostadinov and Hernan Hatem/Luke Morland each earned their second straight wins. Taylor Hardy and Aaron Harris teamed up to deliver GGC a 3-0 lead.
It was more of the same in singles, as the Grizzlies captured 6-0, 6-0 wins on five of the six lines. Hatem notched his first singles win while Moberg, Kostadinov, Morland and Theo Arruda each moved to 2-0. Junior Shaine Brower earned his first victory in a GGC uniform with a shutout performance at number six singles.
The Grizzlies now have a well-earned break before their next contest, Feb. 15.
"We look forward to our next test," added Hodges. "We have a little time to get rested up and then we'll be right back at it on the practice courts."
