LAWRENCEVILLE -- Because of all the rain in recent weeks, Georgia Gwinnett College's new baseball and softball fields won't be completed by the time the seasons start next week.

The school, which is playing both sports for the first time, is looking at early March to have games played on campus.

"The weather had affected us, but the baseball is doing well," Grizzlies athletic director Darin Wilson said. "We anticipate putting grass down on the field the week of Feb. 11."

Alternate plans have been made for the teams' early home games.

The softball team will use Collins Hill's field, where its has often practiced. The baseball team will play the first few weeks of the season on the road.

"Collins Hill has been great, working with us," Wilson said. "So softball was a little easier (to fix). Baseball, once this last round of inclement weather came, we knew we better have a backup plan.

"So it was easier for us to just go on the road and flip our weekends rather than trying to scramble around here."

The administration building, also under construction, should be complete around the beginning of March.
