Construction began earlier this month on a new park in Snellville.
The five-acre Oak Road Park dates back to 2003, when the city purchased the land with Governor’s Green Space Program funds. The grant promises that the park will remain as natural as possible, a press release said.
Master planned in 2006, the $150,000 in funding for the first phase of construction comes from the 2009 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, said city spokesman Brian Arrington wrote in a press release.
The plan for the first phase of construction includes clearing an area in the front of the property and removing invasive species of plants from the entire site. A natural trail will be cut through the park, he added.
Much of the construction will be completed quickly, a press release said, although the eradication of invasive platns will require spraying in the next year.
