History Book Club open to public

Meeting held at the Five Forks library branch

LAWRENCEVILLE — Calling all history buffs: the Gwinnett County Public Library has a club for you.

In partnership with the Gwinnett History Museum, the library hosts a monthly History Book Club at the Five Forks branch in Lawrenceville. The members are meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 13 in the branch’s meeting room.

For January, the group has selected to read Simon Winchester’s “The Men Who United the States.”

Historian and author Winchester focuses on the history of the United States — his new country — and the individuals who contributed to its functioning as a whole.

He organizes the book in five sections named for elements, which are wood, Earth, water, fire and metal.

Some of the History Book Club’s past selections include Tom Reiss’ “The Black Count,” Laurence Bergreen’s “Over the Edge of the World” and John M. Barry’s “The Great Influenza.”

The Five Forks branch is located at 2780 Five Forks Trickum Road in Lawrenceville.
