Authorities believe a Flowery Branch man shot and killed his brother on Christmas morning.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 6400 block of River Hill Drive — about 1.5 miles off Friendship Road and few more from the Gwinnett County line — at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in response to a 911 call from inside the home. Spokesman Mark D. Mitchell said 52-year-old Mark Alan Fyfe answered the door and told deputies that someone else had made the call.

“After Mr. Fyfe closed the door and refused to allow deputies inside the residence, deputies searched outside the residence and located a male subject, later identified as Alan Scott Fyfe, lying in the backyard having sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound,” Mitchell said.

Alan Scott Fyfe, 54, is the suspect’s brother. He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

The Hall County SWAT team was called to the scene and was able to successfully negotiate to get Mark Fyfe and his 21-year-old son, who made the 911 call, out of the house without incident.

Mark Fyfe was arrested and charged with murder, interfering with government property and three counts of obstructing an officer. He is being held without bond at the Hall County jail.

Mitchell declined to offer further insight into the shooting.

“Because the case is still under investigation,” he said, “we don’t have any information about motives or any events that preceded the incident, or who else may have been in the residence besides Mark Alan Fyfe and his son.”

The suspect’s son was interviewed by authorities before being released without charges.
