A Buford family is left homeless after a fire destroyed their home off Walkers Glen Lane on Christmas night.
Crews found a large two-story wood and brick home fully involved on arrival around 9:30 p.m.
"Firefighters had to battle the blaze from the outside due to intense heat and flames," Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said. "Firefighters immediately deployed attack hose lines to control the fire and protect neighboring houses from hot embers and radiant heat."
The home is a total loss due to the fire, which is believed to have started in the garage. However, Rutledge said that exact cause is still undetermined and is under investigation.
"The occupants told firefighters that the flames were rolling out the garage doors on the side of the house when they exited the front door," Rutledge said.
An adult male was treated for a minor burn injury and was released by paramedics at the scene. His wife was able to escape unharmed.
"We are fortunate that the occupants were able to escape without serious injury, especially due to the magnitude of the fire," Rutledge said.
