Officials warn of flooding around Suwanee Creek

The Suwanee Creek Greenway and trails are flooded from Suwanee Creek Park to George Pierce Park following Sunday's rainfall.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the area around Suwanee Creek until Tuesday morning.

As of 4 a.m. Monday, the stage was at 9.4 feet and rising. Forecasters say that it will rise to near 10 feet before starting to fall after midnight.

Officials say at 9-feet, minor flooding expands along the creek from the gage at Buford Highway.

At 10-feet, flooding expands further into the flood plain from Suwanee Creek Park through Martin Farm Park to George Pierce Park.

The flooding will also begin to affect portions of the playground area behind Suwanee Elementary School and yards off Bend Creek Trail and Mill Creek Run.

Meanwhile, the rest of Gwinnett County remains under a flood watch until 4 p.m. today.
