Gwinnett County Fire crews battled a fire at the Platinum Federal Credit Union on the 4000 block of Lawrenceville Highway Sunday evening.

Firefighters arrived to the scene just after 6 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the roof above the drive-thru area, according to Lt. Colin Rhoden.

"Crews aggressively laid out firefighting hose line and positioned the ladder truck to use the aerial to knock down the bulk of the fire," Rhoden said.

He said the fire was stopped before it spread and caused damage to the bank area.

"The fire that caused heavy damage to the drive-thru roof was determined to be accidental and caused by a malfunctioning electrical lighting fixture in the ceiling," Rhoden said.

There were no injuries.
