NORCROSS — Donning part of a superhero costume, an unidentified black male has robbed a pair of Norcross cellphone stores twice in recent weeks.

Gwinnett County police need help uncovering his secret identity.

In a spree beginning Nov. 22, authorities believe the same man has robbed locations in the Norcross Village Shopping Center — near the intersection of Buford Highway and Jimmy Carter Boulevard — multiple times. During the first robbery, the suspect entered the strip mall’s T-Mobile store at about 2:15 p.m., producing a semi-automatic handgun “as he immediately approached an employee who was at the front counter of the business.”

“The suspect then demanded cash from the cash register and the employee complied with his demand,” police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said. “Once the suspect had possession of the cash, he left the scene in the direction of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and there was no getaway vehicle observed.”

Surveillance video does show the suspect entering the shopping center from the area of the nearby Huntington Ridge apartment complex.

On Nov. 26 and 29, police responded to similar robberies at a Metro PCS cellphone store in the same strip mall.

Then, on Dec. 6, another robbery occurred at the initial T-Mobile location.

“This incident involved a male with a similar suspect description, and this male was wearing a yellow sweatshirt with light blue sleeves,” Ritter said. “This sweatshirt appeared to be part of a ‘Wolverine’ Marvel character costume.”

The suspect is described as a black male between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9 and around 150 pounds. He also had short facial hair, and surveillance footage showed him wearing sunglasses and a black knit cap. His weapon is described as a black, “large framed” semi-automatic handgun.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity is asked to call Gwinnett County police at 770-513-5294 or 770-513-5300.
