BUFORD — Red and green are colors often associated with the Christmas season, but the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center is putting extra emphasis on green.
The center encourages residents to get in touch with their “green” sides and consider upcycling as a part of holiday activities during the GEHC’s Green Your Holiday Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
“Upcycling refers to the use of old, reusable or recycled goods to make something new and exciting,” said Jason West, GEHC’s director of programming. “Guests at our Green Your Holiday Festival will enjoy turning leftover materials into great holiday crafts and potential gifts.”
Participants will also enjoy science with Santa activities, tram rides around the GEHC campus, viewing the Turtle Travels exhibit and perusing the Imaginarium Gift Shop for its annual Holiday Open House.
In addition, the GEHC will offer a special class on holiday wreath-making that will provide participants with a nature-inspired wreath to complement holiday décor. The class will have an additional fee of $10 per person and is for ages 13 and older. Registration is required for the holiday wreath-making class and can be done online at
Costs for the Green Your Holiday Festival are $5 for those ages 13 and older and $3 for ages 3 to 12. Children 2 and younger and GEHC members are free.
