Duluth hospital administrator recognized

Gwinnett Medical Center — Duluth’s President Lea Bay was recently presented the 2013 Professional Achievement Award by the Institute of Health Administration at Georgia State University.

The award is given on an annual basis to an alumnus who has demonstrated achievements in leadership, contributions to health administration and the community and dedication to graduate education in health administration.

Bay began her career as an administrative resident at Gwinnett Medical Center and then accepted a position as administrative coordinator at Glancy Rehabilitation Center. She was eventually named vice president and then moved into her current role as president of GMC — Duluth. Bay is board certified in health care management.

Wellness clinic to hold grand opening Thursday

IMS HealthSpa in Loganville is holding a grand opening and ceremonial ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The wellness center specializes in Colonic treatments, Red Light therapy and Intravenous Nutritional Therapy sessions. Its owner is a stage III cancer survivor.

Hospital to hold baby shower for NICU

Gwinnett Medical Center is holding a drop-in baby shower for its neonatal intensive care unit.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion’s Rose Room. Refreshments and tours of the unit will be provided. The unit is in need of gently used or new preemie or newborn clothes and blankets.

Class offered for big brothers, big sisters to-be

Gwinnett Medical Center offers a class designed for children ages 3 to 10 whose parent or parents are expecting a baby.

The next class will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion, 550 Medical Center Blvd. in Lawrenceville. Activities include making a birthday card, practicing holding and swaddling, a discussion of what to expect and a tour of the labor and delivery and post-partum rooms where mom and baby will be. Parents will also receive materials on sibling preparation to take home.
