Bus driver transported after teen crashes into school bus

A Gwinnett County Public Schools bus driver suffered neck and back pain after the bus she was driving Monday morning was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old Norcross man.

The incident happened at 7:31 a.m. at the intersection of Medlock Bridge Road and North Hampton Ridge. A 2012 Cadillac SRX hit the bus, carrying one student, from behind. The student was being transported to Peachtree Elementary, district spokesman Jorge Quintana said.

The bus driver was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth with minor injuries. A second school bus picked up the student to drive to school.

The man driving the Cadillac told police, “I must not have been paying attention.” The bus sustained slight damage to the back bumper, while the Cadillac had extensive damage to the front section of the car.

A Gwinnett County Police report said the man driving the Cadillac was at fault, and he received a citation.
