Duluth apartment fire displaces 32 people from 8 units

Twenty-four adults and eight children are displaced following an afternoon apartment fire in Duluth on Monday.

Gwinnett firefighters were dispatched to 4216 Pleasant Lake Village Lane at 2:59 p.m. and they found heavy smoke coming from the center of the eight-unit, two-story building. Gwinnett Fire Lt. Colin Rhoden said there were no reports of injuries, but Red Cross is assisting the displaced families. Four units were affected by fire and smoke. Firefighters had the incident under control by 3:49 p.m.

“The fire breached the roof and caused heavy damage to it,” Rhoden said.

Rhoden said an investigation found that the fire was caused by having cardboard too close to an oven.
