Berkmar student arrested on gun charge

LILBURN — For the second time this school year, a Berkmar High student was arrested on a gun charge.

Berkmar’s School Resource Officer arrested the juvenile after administrators learned about the unloaded hangun, Principal Al Taylor wrote in a letter to parents and guardians.

Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana said administrators found the weapon after they searched the student, who didn’t make any threats. The student’s facing two charges from school police: Possession of a weapon on school property and possession of a weapon by a minor.

In late October, another Berkmar student was arrested by Lilburn Police after he told police that he didn’t realize a gun was in his backpack until he walked to school from his cousin’s house.
