Duluth grad Willemse headed to Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. — Duluth grad Edward Willemse is among six players to sign national letters of intent to play baseball at Francis Marion University on Thursday.

The 6-foot-4, right-hander is currently a sophomore at Southern Union State Community College in Wadley, Ala., and will play there this spring.

As a freshman, Willemse helped lead the Bison to a 40-17 record and an appearance in the Alabama Community College Conference Tournament championship game, posting a 4.15 ERA with three strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in three appearances last spring.

Willemse went 1-1 with a save and 17 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings in his senior season at Duluth in 2012.
