DACULA — A budget totaling $2,926,979 was adopted by the Dacula City Council on Thursday, the vote taking place following a mandatory public hearing that was held on Nov. 26. The budget amount reflects a $469,779 Community Development Block Grant that will be used for road and sidewalk repair.
City changes method
of soliciting bids
for road projects
City leaders voted Thursday to change the way they solicit bids for right of way repairs, street paving, sidewalk improvements and snow removal. According to City Administrator Jim Osborn, Dacula will advertise once a year to pre-qualify three, four or possibly more contractors for such work, then as projects arise, those contractors will bid on a per-contract basis.
“About 99 percent of the time, we will probably choose the lowest bidder, since they’ll all be pre-qualified,” Osborn said, adding that the city will also save time and money by not having to advertise for bids every time a project is identified.
