LAWRENCEVILLE — Mountain View tipped off Region 7-AAAAAA play on Tuesday night at home by nipping last season’s state runner-up North Gwinnett. The Bears held on to win 46-45 for their first victory ever over the Bulldogs.
Aneysa Williams was the leading scorer for Mountain View (4-2, 1-0) with 18 points, while D’Andra Pringle hit a trio of 3-pointers to add nine points.
North, which was led 16 points from Joshlyn Belcher, hit a 3-pointer with four seconds left to cut the score to one point but couldn’t get any closer.
Peachtree Ridge 48,
MOUNT AIRY — Three Peachtree Ridge Lions hit for double digits in points as the Lions topped Habersham Central 48-36 on Tuesday night in Region 7-AAAAAA play.
Courtney Hopson led the Lions (2-2, 1-0) with 14 points, while Lorrie Cruise scored 11 and Marisa Bowman finished with 10 points.
Peachtree Ridge also received help from Justina Young with nine points and Ale’man Parrish with eight rebounds.
Collins Hill 46,
NORCROSS — Kyra Dixon of Collins Hill led all players with 15 points on Tuesday night in leading the Eagles to a 46-20 win at Meadowcreek in Region 7-AAAAAA action.
Dixon also grabbed five rebounds, while Brittany Stowers added 11 points and eight boards for the Eagles (3-2, 1-0). Marissa Bayer also helped in the win with eight points.
Meadowcreek (1-4, 0-1) was led by six points from Saporia Evans.
Archer 59, South 31
SNELLVILLE — Archer picked up a Region 8-AAAAAA win on Tuesday night at South Gwinnett with a 59-31 decision over the Comets.
Archer (4-0, 1-0) played a strong defensive game by forcing 41 turnovers with 30 steals. Autumn Newby led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Cii Cii Marseille, Kayla Rogers and Madison Newby had five steals each.
Amber Skidgel and Linsey Marchese added to the scoring for Archer with 11 points each with Tia Shorter chipping in with seven points, four steals and four assists.
South (4-2, 0-1) was led by a 19-point effort from Arielle Harvey.
Parkview 70, Berkmar 40
LILBURN — Parkview opened its Region 8-AAAAAA schedule on Tuesday night with a 70-40 win at Berkmar.
Genesis Perrymond led the Panthers (5-0, 1-0) with 18 points, while Vickie Harris followed with 10 points.
Buford 57, SWAC 55
BUFORD — Buford trailed early, but battled its way back to hold on for a 57-55 win at home over Southwest Atlanta Christian on Tuesday night.
Top scorer for Buford (2-1) was Camille Anderson with 20 points, while Bree Horrocks scored 10.
Southwest, which had the final shot of the night and missed, was led by a game high 21 points from Marquita Dantels.
Wesleyan 59, Forest Park 26
NORCROSS — Wesleyan stayed unbeaten on Tuesday night with a 59-26 win at home over Forest Park in a non-region game.
Cairo Booker led the Wolves (5-0) with 14 points, five steals and four assists, while Mikayla Coombs added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Mount Vernon 35 OT
ATLANTA — Chantal Arslanian put in 16 points on Tuesday night in helping Providence to a 40-35 win in overtime at Mount Vernon.
Megan Parker also added 10 points as the Storm upped its record to 2-2.
Hebron 46, Mount Pisgah 15
DACULA — Hebron stretched its record to 5-0 on Tuesday night by beating Mount Pisgah 46-15 in a non-region game.
Hanna Lentz was the leading scorer for Hebron with 15 points, while Ashleigh Stanley had a solid night with 11 points and seven rebounds. Lexi Kent led the team in rebounds with 11.
Collins Hill 59,
Meadowcreek 57 OT
NORCROS — Jalen Mitchell of Collins Hill posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Eagles edged Meadowcreek 59-57 in overtime for a Region 7-AAAAAA win.
Devin Mitchell was the top scorer for the Eagles (2-2, 1-0) with 18 points, while Devin Watson added 13 points.
Meadowcreek (2-3, 0-1) had four Mustangs in double figures in scoring, led by 19 from Austin Robinson. Adrian Hicks followed with 17 points and eight assists, while Anthony Jenkins scored 11. Jaylon Grace also had 10 points, including a strong dunk.
Peachtree Ridge 66,
MOUNT AIRY — Peachtree Ridge posted its first win of the season with a 66-32 victory at Habersham Central in the Region 7-AAAAAA opener for both teams.
Darryl Greer helped log the win by leading the Lions (1-3, 1-0) in scoring with 14 points. Darryl Greer also helped by following up with 13 points.
North 84, Mountain View 50
LAWRENCEVILLE — North Gwinnett ran its record to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA with an 84-50 win at Mountain View on Tuesday night.
Five Bulldogs hit for double digits in scoring, led by 24 from T.J. Howard. Other contributors were Ahmad Caver with 16, Owen Lewis with 15, Malik Carter with 14 and Kamaran Calhoun with 10.
Top scorers for Mountain View (1-5, 0-1) was Jaymin Harris with 12 Deante Harris with 10.
Berkmar 58, Parkview 32
LILBURN — Berkmar celebrated throwback night with a game in its old gym by beating Parkview 58-32 in the Region 8-AAAAAA opener for both squads.
Leading the way for Berkmar (3-2, 1-0) was Jonathan Sanks, who scored 17 points. Tim Rowe added to the offense with 12 points, while Kiair Crouch and James Sanders led the defense.
South 51, Archer 49
SNELLVILLE — South Gwinnett weathered a late surge from Archer to hold on for a 51-49 win at home over the Tigers in Region 8-AAAAAA action.
Roberto Gallinat led the Comets (2-3, 1-0) with 12 points, while Aaron Udell added 10 points. K.V. Walker also had a solid night for South with eight points and seven assists.
Apalachee 66, Gainesville 59
WINDER — Apalachee won its first game in Region 8-AAAAA play on Tuesday night by topping Gainesville 66-59.
Leading the Wildcats (3-1, 1-1) was Kamar Baldwin with 21 points, while Alantae Billings added a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Joey German rounded out the scoring by adding 16 points.
Gainesville fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the region.
Buford 73, SWAC 48
BUFORD — Buford ran its record to 3-2 on Tuesday night as the Wolves ran away with a 73-48 win at home over Southwest Atlanta Christian.
Rakim Lubin led the Wolves with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Matt McMorris flirted with a quadruple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and six steals.
Forest Park 58, Wesleyan 34
NORCROSS — Wesleyan’s record evened at 2-2 on Tuesday night as the Wolves fell at home 58-34 to Forest Park.
Brian Coffey was the top scorer for Wesleyan with 15 points.
Mount Vernon 93,
ATLANTA — Providence fell to 1-4 on the season with a 93-52 loss at Mount Vernon on Tuesday night.
Duncan Gotfredson led the Storm with 11 points.
Mount Pisgah 60, Hebron 57
DACULA — Despite getting double-digit scoring efforts from three players, Hebron fell short at home on Tuesday night with a 60-57 loss to Mount Pisgah.
Leading scorers for Hebron (2-3) were Cory Johnson with 16, Derek Vandiver with 15 and Luke Crawford with 11.
SUWANEE — Norcross posted a big upset in dual competition on Tuesday night with a 42-36 win over fifth-ranked North Gwinnett.
Scoring two wins on the night for Blue Devils (16-4) were Michael Cunningham at 138 pounds, Nick Fox at 170 and Tim Brown in the heavyweight class.
Kevin Shaw at 132 and Carlos Champaign at 145 also had solid nights for Norcross.
