LAWRENCEVILLE — After besting his neighbor in a runoff Tuesday, Lawrenceville Councilman-elect Keith Roche said he is ready to get to work for the city.

Roche, who was the top vote-getter in a four-person race in November, garnered 363 votes to Larry Troutman’s 192 in the runoff for an open City Council post in Gwinnett’s county seat.

Running against the man who lives across the street, Roche said the men stuck to the issues and remain friends.

“It was a very, very different campaign,” Roche said of trying to get his voters back to the polls this month, adding that he and a volunteer team called every voter they could find a phone number for and then knocked on doors. “I think it was about getting out to talk to folks.”

Roche, a retired businessman who served on the city’s planning commission, said he wants to set up ad-hoc advisories groups within the month to help advise him in office, and he plans to meet with the city manager, economic development officials and get involved in code enforcement as soon as possible.

“I want to work on the appearance of our corridors, and I want to invest in our neighborhoods,” Roche said of his top goals. “I’ve only got four years, so I’ve got to hit the ground running.”
