SNELLVILLE — Without the benefit of a scrimmage to start the season, Shiloh did not fully know what to expect in its season opener against Meadowcreek.

If Friday night was any indication, the Generals can certainly count on Charles Shavers. The junior running back set school records in rushing yards and touchdowns as Shiloh coasted to a 48-7 win over the Mustangs in its home opener.

“That was our first time seeing them (Shiloh players) in action,” Shiloh coach Troy Hobbs said. “We put up 48 points…we are getting better we have to see what happens next week.”

The Generals wasted no time as Shavers took the handoff from quarterback Wil Larimore and burst through the middle of the line for a quick score, on its first play from scrimmage, to put Shiloh up 7-0. Shavers owned the first half, totaling 196 yards on the ground in the half and scoring from distances of 20 and 11 yards respectively in the opening minute of the second quarter.

Shaver saved his best play for later in the quarter as he broke past an initial defender and outran the Meadowcreek defense down the left sideline for a 97- yard score.

“All I saw was the end zone, all I ever see is the end zone,” Shavers said about his long scoring play.

The Shiloh defense was up to the task as well as it held Meadowcreek to 11 rushing yards in the first half. The defense collected four fumbles and intercepted a pass that helped set up one of Shavers’ scoring runs.

Meadowcreek (0-1) scored quickly in the second half as an early turnover by Shiloh gave the Mustangs great field position. Ryan Moore scored from two yards out for Meadowcreek’s lone score of the game.

However the night belonged to Shavers as he posted a school-record 247 rushing yards to go along with his school-record five rushing touchdowns.

“ I do it for my Shiloh team…I just wanted to be the best I can be, anytime.” Shavers said.

Larimore threw for 124 yards and two scores in the game — one each to Davonta Henderson and Cameron Stewart.
