Mall of Georgia to host blood drives

BUFORD — Starting Saturday, the American Red Cross is looking for people to give during its blood drive.

Through Monday, there is a donation station at the Mall of Georgia, upstairs near Dick’s Sporting Goods store.

The organization will be taking blood from noon to 5 p.m. all three days. Those interested in donating need to sign up in advance to schedule an appointment. They can select a time by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering code “moga.”

According to the Red Cross:

— Someone needs blood every two seconds in the U.S.

— One pint of blood can save up to three lives.

— Type O is the most requested by hospitals.

— More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day.

— Approximately 60 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, but only 5 percent actually do.
