With perfectionist coaches leading the way, neither Central Gwinnett nor Collins Hill were wholly pleased in the team’s preseason scrimmage games. There were turnovers and mental mistakes, but neither Kevin Reach nor Todd Wofford complained of a lack of effort.

“We’ve got to improve on a lot of things,” Reach said. “The good this is they are correctable things.

“(In the scrimmage) we didn’t play as well as I know we are capable of. I feel good about this week.”

Both teams will break in new quarterbacks to their spread offenses with Tyler Herman taking snaps for Collins Hill and Eric Forrest stepping into the role for the Black Knights with Nate Hartford sharing some of the snaps.

“They both handled (the offense) well (in the scrimmage),” Wofford said. “Nate could probably play every position on the team outside of line. Eric, he set the tempo, picking up blitzes and whatnot. He’s fine running the offense.”

“You try to slow it down as much as you can,” Reach said of facing Central’s offense. “You’ve got to try to hem them up as much as possible. You’re not going to be able to stop them completely.”

The same can be said of Collins Hill.

With this game a rematch from a season ago, and close county foes at that, there is some familiarity between the two schools. And mix in the spread offense and they are very similar. The difference is, Collins Hill has tasted success as a program much more recently than Central with a trip to the Class AAAAA semifinals in 2010. Central last made the playoffs in 2006.

“I want to see attitude,” Wofford said. “I want to see a new attitude from a team that’s moving away from hope to a team that’s expecting to win instead of hoping to win.”

Last meeting: Central Gwinnett won 27-21 last year.
