Library director search underway

LAWRENCEVILLE — The search for Gwinnett’s new library director has officially begun.

A posting for the position — which became vacant with the firing of Nancy Stanbery-Kellam earlier this summer — was placed on the Gwinnett County Public Library website at www.gwinnettpl.org Monday.

The advertisement, which links to a consultant aiding in the process, says the system’s board of trustees is seeking an executive director “to develop a new model of library service delivery while building on the library’s award-winning traditions.”

“The successful candidate will find a library system with significant challenges and outstanding opportunities,” the posting says, referring to the 15-branch system that is one of the largest in Georgia.

Listing a salary for between $115,000 and $135,000, the posting’s minimum requirements include a master’s degree in library science and five years experience as well as ability to maintain Georgia certification.

With a late October expiration date for the advertisement, Library Board of Trustees Chairman Dick Goodman said officials hoped to have a new executive director on board around the first of next year.
