SNELLVILLE — Two years after losing a bitter race for mayor, Barbara Bender is seeking to return to the Snellville City Council.

Bender, the former mayor pro tem, announced Monday she will seek Post 5 on the City Council in the upcoming November election.

“I am running for City Council because I believe all members should actively and continually participate in representing the best interests of the citizens of Snellville,” said the local certified public accountant, who has remained active in the city since the unsuccessful 2011 campaign.

Bender, who served on the City Council for six years, is currently vice president of the Snellville Tourism and Trade Association, president of the Snellville Entrepreneur Council and actively involved in the Snellville Veterans Memorial project and the farmer’s market.

“I want to leverage my previous six years of council service to drive economic growth and further promote civic pride in a safe community environment,” Bender said.
