A 24-year-old is charged with driving under the influence after she caused multiple crashes when driving on the wrong side of Interstate 85 on Sunday morning, according to police.
Just before 4 a.m., 911 dispatch received a call of a hit and run with injuries on I-85 just north of Pleasant Hill Road, Sgt. Brian Doan told the Daily Post. The caller stated that the vehicle was traveling south in the northbound toll lane.
A short time later, a motorist flipped his SUV when he tried to avoid the wrong-way driver, Doan said. This caused a chain reaction with multiple collisions.
Police were able to catch the suspect just south of Steve Reynolds Boulevard. She told officers that she was coming from Atlanta.
According to Doan, officers conducted a D.U.I. investigation and placed the driver under arrest. The driver blew a .158 and .159 when she submitted to the breath test, he said.
Alysha Tacarra Harvin, of Jonesboro, was booked at 5:14 a.m. into the Gwinnett County Jail on hit-and-run charges, reckless driving, DUI and driving on the wrong side of the road.
All but one of the northbound lanes of I-85 northbound were closed for about an hour.
No major injuries were reported.
