Gwinnett Daily Post
DULUTH — When Sally Corbett stepped down from the executive director position at ArtWorks! Gwinnett last November, the nonprofit’s Board of Directors filled the interim position with Raye Varney.
Recently, ArtWorks! annouced it has hired Varney to take over the position full time.
“I am thrilled to be chosen for this role,” the new executive director said. “Gwinnett County has a wonderful group of artists and arts organizations, and I look forward to working with all of them to raise the profile of the arts countywide.”
Since November, there have been many people interested in the position.
“We had an impressive pool of candidates that showed interest in the position, bringing a wide range of diverse talents to the table. This search, and the breadth of talent in the candidate pool, caused us to take more time to seriously consider what ArtWorks! Gwinnett’s current and future needs are,” said Caryn McGarity, co-chair of the ArtWorks! Board. “Raye’s qualifications truly fit those needs perfectly. We are looking forward to seeing what ArtWorks! Gwinnett will accomplish, with Raye’s knowledge, experience, imagination and enthusiasm leading the way.”
Varney is no stranger to the arts community. She brings more than 20 years of arts management expertise to Gwinnett, including work with the Georgia Council for the Arts, Georgia Shakespeare, 7 Stages Theatre and Theatre in the Square.
