Beachy to see doctor after MRI

ST. LOUIS — Just when the Braves thought they had an extra starting pitcher, they may not.

Brandon Beachy, who had pitched well in his best four starts after coming back from Tommy John surgery, has an appointment to see Dr. James Andrew on Monday.

The right-hander had a drop in velocity in the sixth and final inning of his start on Tuesday in New York against the Mets while feeling a little discomfort.

Beachy had an MRI and the results prompted the Braves to set up the appointment with Andrews, who performed the elbow surgery in June 2012.

Mike Minor, who was going to skip a start with the return of Paul Maholm from the disabled list, will now start in place of Beachy on Sunday in the finale of a four-game series with the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Beachy had a setback in his rehab, pushing his return back to late July, and allowed seven runs in his first start against Colorado. But he had turned in four straight quality starts since, going 2-1 with a 2.73 ERA.
