PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE: Creative Enterprise gearing up for annual motorcycle ride

By Leigh McIntosh

Creative Enterprises, Inc. is hosting its 4th Ride for the Challenged, a motorcycle ride for charity, on Sept. 28.

Motorcyclists can sign up to participate in the 15-mile ride around Gwinnett County as they play a “poker run”, collecting a hand of cards with each stop at designated points along the route; the best hand wins.

There will be food, a raffle, door prizes and lots of fun included in the event. Come and join us for several hours of celebrating a great time and all proceeds benefit the CEI programs for its consumers. Greenhouse sales and thrift store sales will have special prices through the event too.

Creative Enterprises is a not for profit organization in Lawrenceville that specialized in job training and job readiness for adult individuals with disabilities. It offers educational classes for all of its consumers in a daily structured program from Monday through Friday, beginning at 8:30am through 2:30pm.

Creative Enterprises, Inc (CEI) had developed special programs that teach, touch, and enrich the individuals it serves. It operates a fully functioning retail greenhouse, open to the public where some of the clients assist in watering the plants and maintaining the processes there. It’s always open during weekdays and on Saturdays too during the Spring Plant Sale.

CEI is also a rescue organization for cats and kittens, a decision made years ago when the clients were concerned about feral cats living on or near CEI’s property. The cats have added another level of enjoyment for everyone, as pet therapy has been proven to be very beneficial.

Several years ago, CEI opened its Thrift Store as a means of patiently training some of the clients to eventually work in a retail environment. It has grown into a productive business where lightly used merchandise is available for purchase at very low prices. Donations of house wares, furniture, books, DVDs, etc. are welcomed and appreciated.

Creative Enterprises also has artists among its consumers. They will be displaying their work at an Art Show on October 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Discount Picture Framing, 945 Buford Drive in Lawrenceville.

Creative Enterprises welcomes the public at these scheduled events as well as any time (Monday-Friday) for visitation at its facility at 701 Hi Hope Lane, Lawrenceville. CEI invites individuals with special talents or interests to come and share them with our consumers. Building a strong community involvement is important for the organization and beneficial to those who are served at CEI.
