CUMMING — North Gwinnett won six matches to take home the championship at the Forsyth Challenge volleyball tournament on Saturday. The Bulldogs (8-0) did not lose a set in defeating Walnut Grove 25-7, 25-19; North Hall 25-19,25-13; Cambridge 25-19, 25-17; Fellowship Christian 25-17, 25-13; Pinecrest 25-9, 25-17 and Norcross in the championship, 25-13, 25-17.
Carson Nebels paced the Bulldogs with 47 kills during the tournament. Alyssa Munlyn chipped in with 37 kills, while Mekenzie Cronic had 46 digs and Mckenzie Major recorded 69 assists.
Hebron Christian wins all four at Area play date
ATHENS — Hebron Christian Academy won all four of its volleyball matches at the Area play date on Saturday. The Lions dispatched host Athens Academy 25-14, 25-20 and then defeated Lakeview 25-7, 25-18. Later in the day, Hebron defeated Providence Christian 25-8, 25-13 and finished with a 25-14, 25-15 over Prince Avenue Christian.
Eden Murray had 29 kills and 10 Aces for Hebron. Regan Long contributed 15 kills and three blocks, Anna Katherine Wilson racked up 75 assists and 12 digs. Madi Grace Easterling had 15 digs and Courtney Civelli had 10 aces and 11 digs for the Lions (7-0).
Norcross places second
CUMMING — Norcross placed second at the Forsyth Challenge volleyball tournament Gold Bracket on Saturday. The Blue Devils (6-2) defeated Forsyth Central 25-12, 25-12 in the opening round. Norcorss then defeated North Forsyth 25-20,25-14 and Mountain View 25-20, 25-10 to reach the title game. The Blue Devils fell 25-13, 25-17 to North Gwinnett.
Kolby Meeks had 36 kills and 17 digs, while Sammie Baker added 66 assists and 13 digs. Shelby King had 21 kills and Makenzie White had 12 kills and 10 blocks for Norcross.
Collins Hill wins Silver Bracket
CUMMING — Collins Hill dropped its first match, relegating it to the Silver Bracket of the Forsyth Challenge, but the Eagles rebounded to win the Silver Bracket title by winning their next three matches.
Collins Hill dropped its opener to Pinecrest 16-25,25-15,10-15. It regrouped to defeat Central Gwinnett 25-7, 25-13 and North Hall 29-27, 21-25, 15-8 before defeating Cambridge 25-22, 22-25, 15-10 to win the Bracket.
Leading the Eagles was Jennifer Ahlswede, who recorded 70 assists on the day, with 30 coming against North Hall. Sabrina Saavedra recorded 43 digs and Courtney Oster had 36 kills and 30 digs. Molly Fine had 10 aces and 27 digs for Collins Hill (4-4).
Mountain View finishes third at Forsyth Challenge
CUMMING — Mountain View reached the semifinals of the Forsyth Challenge Gold Bracket on Saturday, but fell to Norcross 25-20, 25-10. The Bears regrouped to take third place and finished with a 3-2 record in the tournament.
Sam Brower, Aysha Avery and Gabby Marquez all had solid performances for Mountain View.
Wesleyan goes 3-1 in Elite 8 Play Day
NORCROSS — Wesleyan won three of four matches in the Elite 8 Play Day at Wesleyan on Saturday. The Wolves (4-2) defeated Mill Creek 25-16, 18-25, 15-13 and Brookwood 25-22, 25-20. They concluded their day by dispatching Northview 25-22, 25-16 before dropping a 25-21, 25-18 decision to North Cobb.
Kendra Koetter had six aces, 65 assists and 24 digs on the day. Hannah Hoskin recorded seven aces, 17 kills and 22 digs while Emma Bivings had 20 kills and 27 digs.
North wins a pair
SUWANEE — North Gwinnett defeated Winder-Barrow 12-4 and Brookwood 11-3 in the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational on Saturday.
Miranda Tuck was the winning pitcher against Winder-Barrow, limiting the Bulldoggs to four hits. Draven Sonnon had a home run and five RBIs to lead the North offense. Kinsley Jennings and Lindsey Cobb drove in three runs each and Hannah Harrison had two hits. Dowell Cobb provided stellar defense, which bailed out North on several ocassions in the field.
In the nightcap, Jennings was the winning pitcher in a combined effort with Harrison. Moriah Strother and Jennings each hit a home run and had four RBIs. Chase Battle and Makenna Dowell each had two hits for North.
Buford 8, Brookwood 3
SUWANEE — Buford improved its record to 3-0 with a 8-3 win over Brookwood in the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational Saturday.
Tessa Daniels (2-0) pitched a complete game for the Wolves allowing two earned runs and striking out four Broncos. Noah Sudderth, Remington Hasty, Baylee Sexton and Niki Cook all drove in runs for Buford. Cook also stole two bases in the game.
Wesleyan drops a pair
NORCROSS — Wesleyan dropped a pair in the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament on Saturday. The Wolves were beaten 9-4 by Northview and 10-2 by Starr’s Mill.
In the Starr’s Mill contest, Dacia Jones had three hits while Riley Henning had a pair for Wesleyan.
