DULUTH — An off-duty Gwinnett County police officer — in full uniform and a squad car — allegedly witnessed the brutal attack of a taxi driver.
The officer was working a security job at the Saratoga Springs apartment complex off Duluth’s Pleasant Lake Village Lane Saturday evening when he pulled up alongside DeKalb Doraville Taxi vehicle. Inside, the 51-year-old female driver was in bad shape: according to police reports, she had sustained a “deep laceration on her forehead, a fractured nose and multiple teeth that had been knocked out.” She had been choked unconscious.
The driver’s alleged assailant — 28-year-old Osmel Enriquez — still sat in the back seat.
According to the victim, she had picked up Enriquez in DeKalb County and brought him to the Saratoga Springs complex, where he lived. Once they arrived, he began assaulting her by “repeatedly striking her in the head with a glass bottle.”
Enriquez, who initially was “uncooperative and refused to identify himself,” was taken into custody at the scene. Gwinnett County jail records show he was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and theft of services. He is being held without bond.
Records also showed a hold for immigration services.
