21 displaced after Lawrenceville quadruplex fire

LAWRENCEVILLE — Four families were displaced by fire at a Lawrenceville quadruplex Tuesday evening.

Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the building on the 90 block of Caboose Court at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, finding “heavy smoke and heat” coming from the two center apartments. Believed to have originated in the basement of the two-story structure, the flames spread rapidly, fire department spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden said.

Crews quickly entered the quadruplex and were able to bring the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.

The two center units of the quadruplex had heavy damage, while two more units on the ends had smoke and water damage. All residents of the building — 12 adults and nine children — were displaced, Rhoden said. The Red Cross was notified to assist them.

Fire investigators responded to the scene and found the cause of the blaze to be undetermined, Rhoden said.

Wish people would be more careful, but that is asking too much from them I guess.
