GCPS enrollment set to exceed forecast

SUWANEE — As each day passes, the hallways across Gwinnett County Public Schools are filling up.

Since its first enrollment count on Thursday, the district has counted 4,185 more students, bringing its latest total to 166,334 students on Tuesday, the fifth day of school in the 2013-14 school year. The district has projected enrollment to be 166,667 by its final tally on Sept. 3, said Sloan Roach, executive director of communication and media relations.

“District planners do expect district enrollment will exceed the forecast next week,” Roach said, adding that it would remain within 1 percent of the forecast by Sept. 3.

This jump mirrors last year’s figures when there were 162,741 students by the second count, which was 3,984 more than the first count.
