ATLANTA — The newest chief justice of Georgia’s Supreme Court will be sworn in this week by a familiar face.

Former Gov. Zell Miller will do the honors during a Thursday afternoon ceremony officially making Hugh P. Thompson the 30th chief justice of the state’s highest court. Thompson will be introduced by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson and attorney David Hudson.

Also attending will be current Gov. Nathan Deal, former Gov. Roy Barnes, University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby and all six living former chief justices. The event will take place at 2 p.m. in the House Chambers of the state Capitol building.
