Friends American Grill of Dacula, Dawsonville and Suwanee has announced the creation of eight new college scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded to senior high school football players at the end of 2013.
“I guess we’ve been in Dacula for three years, we really feel like the community has supported us,” co-owner Ray Stanjevich said. “Dacula is a small town and we get a lot of repeat business … we know almost everyone that comes in. There is always one kid on the team that needs help.”
To give back, Friends will award all eight recipients a college scholarship of $500. Each winner represents attributes of teamwork, friendship, hard work and endless effort, according to Stanjevich. All recipients will be chosen by their respective coaching staffs.
“It may not be a whole lot of money, but when you consider how much books cost … college education is expensive,” he said. “It’s a huge expense these days — a lot more than when I was on college. It’s a good way to give back to someone else.”
The schools with scholarship recipients include Hebron Christian Academy as well as Dacula, Mountain View, Archer, Lanier, North Gwinnett, North Forsyth and Dawson County high schools.
Friends has three restaurant locations: 752 Dacula Road in Dacula, in Dawsonville on Ga. Highway 400 and at 3890 Lawrenceville Suwanee Road in Suwanee.
