Jacob Bayer of Lawrenceville had an excellent showing at the recent U.S. Kids Golf Teen World Championships in Pinehurst, N.C.
Bayer was the second of 125 golfers in the 14-year-old boys division, earning a spot in the event’s World Cup as one of the top four American placers. He and partner Kyle Cornelius of Dothan, Ala., won their World Cup match vs. Ryan Chadwick of England and Ingi Steingrimsson of Iceland, helping the U.S. to a 7-2 victory on Pinehurst No. 2, site of the 2014 U.S. Open.
Bayer shot 1-under-215 in the three-day tourney preceding the World Cup, with rounds of 72, 72 and 71. Dacula’s Alex Markham (76-76-81) tied for 50th in that age group.
In the 13-year-old boys division, Buford’s Jordan Rodriguez tied for 25th. He shot 81 and 73, followed by a nine-hole round of 36. In 15-18 boys competition, Suwanee’s Brett Barron tied for 26th with rounds of 79, 71 and 79.
