PREP ROUNDUP: North girls top Brookwood in state tennis playoffs

SNELLVILLE — Haley Wix and Emma Etelalahti edged out a win in a third-set tie-breaker at No. 1 doubles to help lift North Gwinnett to a 3-1 victory over Brookwood in a second-round match in the Class AAAAAA state girls tennis tournament Monday at Brookwood.

The Bulldogs (19-3) also got wins from Hannah Sardinia at No. 1 singles and the team of Jada Tijani and Vanessa Eusebio at No. 2 doubles to advanced into the quarterfinals, where they will travel to traditional powerhouse Walton on Wednesday.


Walker 3, Providence 1

DULUTH — Providence fell to the Walker School 3-1 in a first-round match in the Class A Private School Tournament on Monday at Berkeley Hills Country Club.

Vani Crist took the only team point of the day for the Storm (10-10) with her win at No. 1 singles.


Brookwood 3, Chattahoochee 0

SNELLVILLE — Victories at No. 1 singles by Drew Wendel and at No. 2 singles by Zach Jennings helped lift Brookwood to a 3-0 win over Chattahoochee in a Class AAAAAA second-round match Monday at Brookwood.

The team of Matt Jones and Will McWhirt also won at No. 1 doubles for the Broncos (17-3), who will take on Region 5-AAAAAA champion Walton in the quarterfinals later this week. The host of that match will be determined by a coin flip.

GAC 3, Jefferson 0

JEFFERSON — GAC got singles wins from Bailey Showers at No. 1 and Andrew Chitty at No. 3 as the Spartans advanced to the Class AA state quarterfinals with a 3-0 win at Jefferson on Monday.

The No. 2 doubles team of Brendan Corley and Kris Ippolito also won for GAC, which will travel to Westminster this afternoon for its quarterfinal match, which will be part of a doubleheader with the girls quarterfinal match between the same two schools


Collins Hill 17, Norcross 7

NORCROSS — Abby Squires scored seven goals and handed out three assists, while Anna Britt had four goals and an assist as Collins Hill ran past Norcross 17-7 Monday night at Norcross.

The Eagles also got three goals and three assists from Calli Star and a goal and three assists from Abbey Mott.
