PREP ROUNDUP: Extra-inning rally sends Norcross into playoffs with 9-5 win over Duluth

DULUTH -- Norcross clinched the No. 4 seed out of Region 7 with a 9-5 win over Duluth in eight innings on Friday.

The win allows the Blue Devils (16-9, 7-7 in Region 7-AAAAAA) to travel to Johns Creek next Friday for the first round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.

Brooks Buckler picked up the win, pitching two innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Zach Shirah was 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Jess Ramsey was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and three runs scored. Jascanel Ferreras was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Mike Perez had a pinch-hit double and Trevor Craport had an RBI single. Yuuki Bomar also contributed a two-run single.

BASEBALL

South 2, Brookwood 0

SNELLVILLE -- South finished the season with a 20-6 overall record and 13-3 Region 8-AAAAAA record with a 2-0 win over Brookwood on Friday.

Ryan Patterson (7-1) picked up the win, going seven innings with five strikeouts.

Montrell Marshall and Mason Hart had RBIs for the Comets, while Adrian Martinez, Morgan Miller and Zack Bogardts each had a hit.

South will travel to Walton for the first round of the state playoffs, while Brookwood will travel to Milton.

Mountain View 2, North 1

SUWANEE -- Mountain View wrapped up its season with a 2-1 win over North on Friday.

The win moved the Bears into a three-way tie with Norcross and Collins Hill for the No. 4 seed, but Norcross earned the final postseason berth on the tie-breaker.

Joey Bell picked up the win, giving up six hits, while striking out two, and A.J. Moore had the save.

Ben Utley and Luis Vilchez had two hits apiece, while Forrest Girardeau had an RBI.

Buford 11, Dawson Co. 1

DAWSONVILLE -- Buford moved to 21-4 on the year and 18-3 in Region 7-AAA with an 11-1 win over Dawson County on Friday.

Jake Higginbotham picked up the win, going five innings with 10 strikeouts.

Russell Klein came on in the final two innings and got two strikeouts, while also going 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer and two RBIs.

Joey Bart was 2-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs, while Ryan Groves was 4-for-5 with two RBIs.

The Wolves will play St. Pius X in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs next Friday.

Peachtree Ridge 8, Habersham Central 0

MT. AIRY -- Peachtree Ridge moved to 17-9 on the year and 11-3 in Region 7-AAAAAA with an 8-0 win over Habersham Central on Friday.

The win clinched the No. 2 seed for the Lions, who will host West Forsyth in the first round of the state playoffs next Friday.

Jordan Lee picked up the win, giving up one hit in three innings with five strikeouts.

Blake Best was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Matt Trawick and Anthony Perez were also 2-for-2. Tyler Hawell went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Jonathan Hudson had an RBI single, and Drew Wharton had a double and two RBIs.

Joey Ruiz and Nick Neidert added a hit each, and Ryne Inman had an RBI sacrifice fly.

Hebron 10, Athens Christian 3

DACULA -- Hebron moved to 13-11 on the year and 12-6 in the region with a 10-3 win over Athens Christian on Friday.

Ben Coker went 5 innings with four strikeouts to pick up the win.

Nathan Holt was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Haydn Nechanicky was 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Lew Stephens went 2-for-3, while Brady Shoppe, Robby Stephens and Coker each had an RBI.

Walnut Grove 15, Lanier 2

SUGAR HILL -- Lanier dropped to 18-8 on the year and 11-5 in Region 8-AAAA with a 15-2 loss to Walnut Grove on Friday.

Michael Diaz had a double, while T.J. Richardson had a double and an RBI. Matt Ramsay, Kam Doster and Blake Forte each contributed a hit.

The Longhorns will travel to Columbus on Friday to face last year's AAA state champions in the first round of the state playoffs.

Berkmar 10, Meadowcreek 2

LILBURN -- Berkmar finished its season at 4-22 with a 10-2 win over Meadowcreek on Friday.

Carlos Perez picked up the win, going seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Peter Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, while Mason Brown was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Michael Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Eric Gordon was 2-for-3 with a triple and Parker Oesterle had an RBI.

Dacula 20, Central 4

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Dacula finished the season 9-17 overall and 6-10 in Region 8-AAAAAA with a 20-4 win in five innings on Friday.

M.J. Hawkins picked up the win, going two innings with two strikeouts.

Tyler Crumley was 3-for-5 with five RBIs, while Matt Nigh was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Nick Heamon and Henry Mesa were each 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Michael Stampfel was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

BOYS LACROSSE

Mill Creek 11, Peachtree Ridge 7

SUWANEE -- Mill Creek finished the region season undefeated in Area 4-AAAAAA by scoring eight unanswered goals in the second half to beat Peachtree Ridge 11-7 on Friday.

The Hawks (15-3, 10-0) got four goals and two assists from Nick Kozlowski, and two goals from Zach Roper. Will Peek, Nick Eldridge, Sam Kibildis, Ian Miller and Blake Christian each had one goal.

Everette Crump picked up the win in goal with five saves.

For the Lions, Doug Poedtke led the team with four goals and one assist, while Jacob Lee had two goals.

Collins Hill 19, Brookwood 6

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill moved to 9-6 on the year with a 19-6 win over Brookwood on Friday.

Connor Pittman had five goals and three assists, while Pat Singer had two goals and three assists. Andrew Martinez also contributed three goals, Patrick Norton had two goals and two assists, and Aaron Smithson had a goal.

Josh Jones picked up the win in goal with 12 saves.

Grayson 19, Mountain View 0

LOGANVILLE -- Grayson moved to 9-6 on the year with a 19-0 win over Mountain View on Friday.

Zach Cernich had five goals, while Hunter Dutton had three goals and two assists. Nick Peters also contributed two goals and three assists, while Nate Peters and Dustin Hopkins each had two goals.

Danny Tressler picked up the win in goal with four saves.

Blessed Trinity 13, Wesleyan 3

ATLANTA -- Aaron Smay set a school record with 24 saves, but it wasn't enough as Wesleyan dropped to 7-8 on the year with a 13-3 loss to Blessed Trinity on Friday.

Jake Miller had one goal and two assists for the Wolves, while Matt Zimmerman and Blake Center each had a goal.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Brookwood 12, Collins Hill 11, OT

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Brookwood moved to 10-7 on the year with a 12-11 win in overtime over Collins Hill on Friday.

Lindsey Thomson had five goals, an assist and four groundballs, while Taylor Stercay had four goals, one assist and five groundballs. Lauren Clay also contributed three goals and four groundballs.

Courtney Ross picked up the win in goal with 17 saves.

Grayson 20, Mountain View 4

LOGANVILLE -- Grayson moved to 10-5 on the year with a 20-4 win over Mountain View on Friday.

Austyn Gorski had four goals and two assists, while Ashley Mistretta had four goals. Charlotte Partrick and Taylor Denton each contributed two goals.

Maddie LaCavera pulled double duty, making four saves in goal and also scoring two goals of her own.
