LAWRENCEVILLE -- A warrant sweep conducted this week by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office netted a total of 56 arrests, officials said.
Run in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Corrections and Georgia Department of Pardons and Paroles, about 100 law enforcement officers conducted "Operation Tomahawk" across the county on Wednesday and Thursday. Authorities attempted to serve 192 warrants, most for felony probation violation, sheriff's deputy Shannon Volkodav said.
A total of 56 arrests were made and compliance checks were made on 82 registered sex offenders. Three sex offenders were arrested for non-compliance, Volkodav said, including one incident that also involved the seizure of six pounds of marijuana.
"Operation Tomahawk was deemed by its participants to be a success and plans are already underway for the development of a similar future operation," Volkodav said.
