SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood had the low medalist at the Region 8 golf tournament again, but it wasn't three-time defending champion Taylor Allen.

Allen's teammate Harmanprit Kaur shot a 74 at Summit Chase Country Club on Thursday to claim the Region 8-AAAAAA crown.

"We're teammates, so she was happy and I was happy," Kaur said.

While Allen didn't win the individual region title for the first time in her career, she was still able to help take home some hardware. Taylor's 88 helped Brookwood reclaim the region title with a score of 255.

"It's always nice to win," Brookwood coach Steve Thompson said. "We have great players. They knew they would be pretty good this year. They have set goals far and beyond. This is what they expected."

Brookwood lost the region crown by one stroke to Parkview last year. The team race wasn't as close on Thursday with the Broncos winning by 12 strokes. Dacula was second with a score of 267 to qualify for the state sectional.

Kaur was the low medalist with a 74, followed by Dacula's Kiersten Nowell's 81, Grayson's Julie Spangler had an 86 and Allen shot an 88. Spangler was the low medalist from a non-qualifying team and earned a spot in the state tournament.

"If I was a betting person, I would have said one of those four to win it," Thompson said. "They are all solid."

Allen was trying to become the first four-time Region 8 champion. Now Kaur is on track for the rare accomplishment after the freshman won her first region crown.

"She's played pretty solid all year long," Thompson said. "It's not surprising to see her shoot that number."

Behind Kaur's 74 and Allen's 88, Kaitlyn Cundiff shot 93 and Elisa Groccia had a 101 for the Broncos.

The Region 8 title was the fifth trophy for the Broncos this season, who also won the Region 7 vs. Region 8 challenge. Brookwood was runner-up at White County, Brookwood Invitational and the St. Pius Par-3 challenge.

Brookwood will try to capture another trophy at the state tournament on May 20 at Sunset Country Club in Moultrie.

"We certainly can be there," Thompson said. "It will take a great effort to beat Lambert."
