KING: On immigration and promises from the Gang of Eight: Remember 1986

D.A. King

D.A. King

"We used the word 'legalization,' and everybody fell asleep lightly for a while, and we were able to do legalization." -- Former Wyoming Sen. Alan K. Simpson, co-sponsor of the "one-time" 1986 amnesty for illegal aliens, to NPR in 2010.

For conservatives, there can be no more effective reminder that the current attempt to legalize 11 million to 20 million illegal aliens is a shameless, calculated and deceptive scam than the rallying cry "Remember 1986!"

The liberal media seldom begins a news report on another legalization that's "not amnesty" without stating that "the Republican party has taken a second look at its immigration stand since the 2012 election ... " This is in hope that obedient GOP voters will succumb to the endless false assertions that if granted citizenship, these grateful, low-wage, entitlement-dependent workers would vote for small-government, low-tax Republican candidates.

An announced goal from the Republican establishment of another legalization is to capture the Hispanic vote. And to "solve immigration forever."

In 1988, just two years after the Republican establishment actually delivered the "one-time" amnesty ("we'll never have to do it again ... "), GOP presidential candidate George H.W. Bush lost the Latino vote by 39 points. The all-time modern record harvest was Texan George W. Bush, who promised amnesty in his 2004 re-election campaign. He got about 40 percent of the Hispanic vote.

In 2008, Republican John McCain got 31 percent of the Latino vote.

The record low was Bob Dole at 21 percent in 1996 against incumbent Bill Clinton, who had just implemented landmark, effective border-fence measures in San Diego. But Democrat Clinton still won. In a landslide. With 72 percent of the Hispanic vote.

Don't like the legal and accurate term "illegal alien?" "Undocumented Democrat" is just as descriptive.

The legalization of 1986 only served to increase illegal immigration. Because the false promises of future border security, future enforcement of temporary visa holder departures and future workplace enforcement never happened.

The legalization of 1986 is in large part the reason for the crushing crisis today. Immigration is not "solved." It is managed. And we will never have a workable immigration system until we have a genuine, visible and proven policy of unapologetic enforcement. Including at the workplace.

One of the current "Trust us, we mean it this time, no really!" promises on legalization-again is future nationwide implementation of the E-Verify system. In about five years. After legalization. "We promise!"

Who has been negotiating the terms of the promises -- including E-Verify -- necessary to slide another legalization swindle past the American people? One of the "stakeholders" is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The same people who used their enormous lobbying budget to stop E-Verify from being mandatory at its inception. The same Chamber of Commerce that sued multiple times in federal court to stop the requirement that E-Verify be mandatory on federal contracts. The same Chamber of Commerce that went all the way to the Supreme Court trying to stop the E-Verify mandate in Arizona.

The border is not secure. "We've seen the number of illegal aliens (crossing) double, maybe even triple since amnesty talk started happening," an irate Border Patrol agent told Townhall last month.

Americans should heed Gang of Eight member Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on "Meet the Press" earlier this month: "We've come to a basic agreement, which is that first, people will be legalized ... then, we will make sure the border is secure," he said. With a straight face.

The American people put down an amnesty attempt last in 2007. Ask yourself: If they were at all sincere, why didn't the same people who were selling legalization then dedicate themselves to making the promises become reality before the 2013 legalization promise campaign?

Remember 1986.

The truth is that you are far more likely to be killed by an illegal alien from south of the border than by a radicalized muslim. Start publishing the number of residents of this country killed or maimed by illegal alien drug dealers, illegal alien drunk drivers and other illegal alien criminals and maybe then Americans would wake up.

If you must compare numbers, compare your numbers to the number of US citizens killed by US citizens. Check out the number killed by our home grown non-Muslim radicals. We seem to ignore the background of people like Tim McVeigh that have defended their actions with their extremist Christian viewpoints which are no more Christian than the radicalized Islamic terrorist are Muslim.

Jan, no doubt we need to deal with our own homegrown terrorists. Does your position mean that you support Islamic terrorists being given citizenship to add to overall threat to this nation? Please provide numbers to support your claim. Thank you.

Jan can't make a distinction between citizen, resident alien, illegal alien or the aliens from Mars secretly living among us. They are all citizens of the universe and Americans have no right to deny them entry and access to gooberment [ taxpayer funded ] freebies. The fact that people who have no moral, ethical or legal justification for being inside our borders kill and maim hundreds a year doesn't matter to Jan as long as Jan isn't the body in a box by the hand of someone that the gooberment should have ensured wasn't in this country.

Of course not. I do not support making any terrorist a citizen, whether they are Islamic, Jewish or Christian. I am only pointing out the absurdity of using the stats quoted by notblind as an excuse to demonize a group of people. I do support universal background checks to help prevent terrorists from buying guns, currently those on the terrorist watch list can legally buy guns! As you see, notblind must resort to insults to defend his/her position.

Jan, where are your stats? FACT is you don't have any to support your position. As we ALL can see, Jan typically demands facts without offering FACTS or STATS on her own position. Jan must also resort to mindgames in a failed attempt to defend her position. Her rhetoric in these posts is an insult to the victims and Boston.

There are folks that will continue to focus on the Angry White Christians in an attempt to change the face of this country as they seem fit. What good will it do and who will they blame when liberals spiral into poverty and live in fear because they have given their country away? The Angry White Christian is not our enemy - it's a myth that keeps the dream of alive.

Angry White Christians are angry because their goodwill and sense of fairness has been systematically taken advantage of by liberals since the mid 60's. Unfortunately they have awakened too late and the left has "won" what will be an extremely hollow victory.

So, in your mind, news2me, those "Christians" that assassinated doctors and bombed women's clinics are not terrorists? Do you also claim that Tim McVeigh's bombing in Kansas was not an act of terror? Okay, you can climb back into your private world and continue to ignore facts.

0

news2me 1 year, 6 months ago

Never said anything in regards to McVeigh or "Christians" not being terrorists. Please provide proof (facts) that I said that or that you can read my mind.

Jan is attempting to divert attention away from the FACT that Immigration will now be greatly impacted by the Boston Terrorist attack. Like it or not, it is bad news for your Undocumented Democrats as well. In FACT, Jan should feel ashamed to be supporting (defending) any Illegal or Asylum immigrant at this time. Shameful.

Okay Jan, you can climb back under that rock and continue to ignore the real FACTS. You really are in the vast minority with your hatred for this country and our national security.

A better way to say it is as follows: if you are injured by an illegal, chances are they are related to the drug trade or were not exposed to numerous MADD ads telling them not to drink and drive [this is a weaker point since there are plenty of legal citizens who drink and drive].

I always have stood the position that Illegal Immigration from our South is a huge threat to our overall National Security. Our nation must be protected from everyone and anyone that does not belong here. No threat is too small to be ignored.

Latinos are watching what is going on with Boston and acting as if their decades long threat is less important and more humane. International terrorists are hoping that we forget about Boston quickly (as Americans seem to do) and start back the focus on our Southern borders. Both are playing Americans as foolish idiots just willing to cave into political and global correctness.

This has got to end. What Reagan did over 25 years ago should not factor into the argument. The survival of our country is at stake, and there is an entire World out there that continues to watch us as we continue to give our country away, all because socialists are determined to change the face and wealth of America.

[Latinos are watching what is going on with Boston and acting as if their decades long threat is less important and more humane.] Except for the drug trade, I can see why it would be less important. There is no intent to take out americans.

Many business owners want cheap labor. They know they can get it from illegal immigrants. So you are talking about the housing and farming business, both of which have HUGE influence with their lobbiests.

Trying to compare latinos who by the numbers are christian with extreme islamist terrorists is Ridiculous at best.

If you want the influx of illegal immigration to end, you have to end what brings them here in the first place. Access to free education, free healthcare, subsidized housing, and businesses who hire illegals and profit by paying them less than american citizens. If you focus on those who benefit from those entering this country illegally, you will slow down its influx.

LilburnsFurture ... I agree completely with your viewpoint. Our lawmakers must start looking at the broader view, while not forgetting the entitlements that entice people from all over the World to come here.

"Our lawmakers" have their own agenda. They are implementing it right now. In their minds destroying the healthy American middle class and it's large tax revenues and replacing this positive revenue stream with a negative revenue stream is the best thing for America. I wish "our lawmakers" would truthfully explain their rationale but that would be counterproductive to someone needing the votes of the harmed masses for reelection.

The good ole USA is the world's dumping ground for non-productive and counter-productive people. There was an article in a newspaper last year about an apartment building in Atlanta with many old Russian immigrants who were receiving checks and housing assistance from the taxpayer. Their productive lives were spent in Russia fighting the cold war [ on the Russian side ]. Now that they are no longer able to contribute to the Russian economy where do they end up ? Good ole USA, dragging down our economy. Them jerks in the Kremlin are smarter than the jerks in Washington.

“The terror watch list, as it's known, isn't really a watch list. For one thing, it isn't regularly watched. For another, it's not one list. It's more of a set of hierarchical, integrated databases which are checked under various circumstances, most notably when individuals want to travel.”

“It's a list that comprises over half a million names. "Because of its huge size," Reuters reports, "U.S. investigators do not routinely monitor everyone registered there, said U.S. officials familiar with the database."
