SNELLVILLE -- Thanks to the store's clerk, Snellville police have surveillance footage to aid them in finding the man who robbed a local gas station over the weekend.

At about 11 p.m. Saturday, a black male suspect entered the Citgo station at 2304 Scenic Highway, jumping the counter, grabbing the clerk and demanding money. The clerk, however, "fought with the suspect and pulled the bandanna from his face," Snellville Police Capt. Harold Thomas said.

"The struggle continued until the suspect forced the clerk into a back room and produced a large knife, holding the knife to the throat of the clerk," Thomas said. "The clerk was forced to turn off the lights in the store and the suspect forced the clerk back to the register."

The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash but, thanks to the cashier's bravado, store surveillance cameras caught at least a glimpse of the his face. Photos were released to the media.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Thomas at 770-985-3567 or Sgt. Ray Gunter at 770-955-3563.
