STONE MOUNTAIN -- Gwinnett County Fire and Hazmat units were on the scene Wednesday of an outside gas leak at the intersection of Sanibel Drive and Cumberland Way.
Units were dispatched at 4:48 p.m., with the leak being stopped at 7:46 p.m.
A crew from Atlanta Gas Light was able to stop the leak, with residents allowed to return to their homes at 8 p.m.
According to a Gwinnett Fire press release, crews found a strong odor of natural gas and an active leak on arrival. The leak was caused by a utility contractor who hit a 2-inch gas service line while digging with a tractor.
Responding to the scene was one engine, one ladder truck, one hazmat unit and one battalion chief.
