SUWANEE -- Parent to Parent of Georgia has scheduled a fundraiser for the statewide organization which serves individuals with disabilities and special healthcare needs from birth to age 26.
The event is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Mi Chi Bistro and Sushi restaurant, 1300 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Suwanee. Proceeds from ticket sales go to Parent to Parent of Georgia.
Tickets are $25 at the door. Each ticket includes one of five dinner options for each guest as well as silent auction items and live musical entertainment by local guitarist Steve McElroy.
For more than 30 years, P2PGA has provided core services and a statewide database of informational support at no cost to families throughout Georgia.
"Despite many success stories, P2PGA estimates there are still close to 17,000 children with special needs in Gwinnett alone who can benefit from its services," said Natalie Whitlow, president, board of directors.

Earth Day celebration is Saturday
BUFORD -- The Conservation Committee of the Philadelphia Winn Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution announces it will join in with other volunteers at the Mill Creek Nature Center Earth Day Celebration in Buford, 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday
The celebration is open to the public. Help with stream cleanup, restoration or enjoy a guided nature walk. The Georgia Wildlife Federation owns and manages the 88-acre wetland and wildlife preserve. Visitors should park in the Mall of Georgia Parking lot nearest the intersection of Mall of Georgia Boulevard and Nature Center Parkway. Cross the street and look for the MCNC banner.
Pam Lyle, the chapter's Conservation Committee Chair said that Kelly Floress and Karen Theodorou "will lead the morning bird walk." Children can enjoy supervised crafts at the amphitheater. Arts in the Park returning to Suwanee
SUWANEE -- Arts in the Park, a festival that celebrates art in all its various forms from fine arts to performance arts will return to Town Center Park on May 18 with a big "Art Splash!". Applications are now being accepted from artists who wish to be part of this hands-on festival.
Applications are available at www.suwaneeartsinthepark.com. The deadline to apply is April 30.
Exhibitors will be selected through a jury process and are eligible for prize money. The festival is particularly interested in artists who are willing to demonstrate their craft onsite or to educate the public about their art form.
Last year's Arts in the Park festival included 54 artists sharing and demonstrating their craft and drew more than 4,000 participants to Town Center Park. The 2013 festival, again hosted by the North Gwinnett Arts Association, will take place from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, May 18.
Walmart Steak-Over Challenge is Saturday
SNELLVILLE -- The Walmart Steak-Over Challenge is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the 1550 Scenic Highway N., Snellville location. Firefighters from two Atlanta firehouses are firing up the grill to go head to head in the event.
Shoppers will be able to vote for who has the best steak. Whoever wins will go on to represent the region in the national finale event in Lose Angeles for a chance to win $20,000.
