PREP ROUNDUP: Matics Ks 12, Patterson homers again in South win

LAWRENCEVILLE — South Gwinnett's Brandon Matics struck out 12 to help the Comets cruise to an 18-2 win over Central Gwinnett on Monday.

Matics got plenty of help from the offense, which belted three home runs. Ryan Patterson (2-for-5, two RBIs) hit his seventh homer of the year. Montrell Marshall and Chad Smith (four RBIs) also belted home runs.

Colton Nash went 3-for-4 with four runs, Mason Hart was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Adrian Martinez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs.

Matics (3-2) pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and two runs. He gave up a pair of home runs to Central's Eli Vale, who was 3-for-3.

BASEBALL

Grayson 10, Shiloh 1

LOGANVILLE — Chris Erwin struck out eight in Grayson's 10-1 win over Shiloh on Monday.

Brandon Benson and Jack Banda had two hits each. Austin Meadows and Korey Anderson each had a hit and two RBIs for the Rams (15-7, 10-2).

Jamarcus George got the loss on the mound for Shiloh (10-11, 5-6). Kyle Lewis, Gilberto Lopez and Jeremy Glore each had a single, while Eriq White and Cletus Avery each had a triple.

Archer 9, Berkmar 3

LILBURN — Brett Self and Gabe Tiller each had an RBI and scored two runs in Archer's 9-3 win over Berkmar on Monday.

Hayden Pendergraft (2-0) got the win, pitching three innings and striking out four for the Tigers (8-13, 5-7).

Rockdale 6, Dacula 3

DACULA — Dacula pitcher Chance Keefer allowed four hits and three runs in the Falcons' 6-3 loss to visiting Rockdale on Monday.

Brandon Ake was 1-for-1 with a double, Austin Collins was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Matt Jones was 1-for-2 with a double and Nick Mollica was 2-for-4 for the Falcons (7-14, 4-7).

Mill Creek 5, Habersham Central 4

HOSCHTON — Andrew Wise had a pair of RBIs, including the game-winner, in Mill Creek's 5-4 win over Habersham Central on Monday.

Logan Moseley was the winning pitcher in relief after Jesse Thomas pitched 5 1/3 innings. Moseley also was 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate along Tyler Bolt who was 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Hawks (14-6, 8-1).

North Gwinnett 9, Duluth 8

DULUTH — Justin Moran had an RBI single in the eighth inning to lift North Gwinnett to a 9-8 win over Duluth on Monday.

Duluth homered in the seventh inning for force extra innings.

Michael Haynes was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Zayne Stringer went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored to help the Bulldogs (15-6, 8-1).

Peachtree Ridge 4, Collins Hill 1

SUWANEE — Craig Williams got the start, Nick Neidert got the win and Drew Wharton picked up the save in Peachtree Ridge's 4-1 win against Collins Hill on Monday.

Anthony Perez was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Cameron Shepherd had an RBI single and Cooper Burdick had an RBI. Jonathan Hudson and Steven Tomlinson each had two hits and Chad Pollitt and Wharton had one hit each for the Lions (13-8, 7-2).

Ryan Askew was the losing pitcher for Collins Hill, allowing two runs. Austin Gonzalez went 2-for-2, with a double.

Norcross 4, Mountain View 1

LAWRENCEVILLE — Jackson Williams surrendered just one run in Norcross' 4-1 win over Mountain View on Monday.

Williams allowed five hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings and struck out three to improve to 5-3 on the mound. Brooks Buckler got the save, allowing one hit over 2 2/3 innings.

Jess Ramsey (2-for-4, RBI), Griffin Helms (1-for-4, stolen base, run), Zach Shirah (1-for-4, run, RBI, stolen base), Jascanel Ferreras (1-for-3), Trevor Craport (1-for-3, RBI) and Devin Gerathy (1-for-4, run) led the Blue Devils' (12-8, 3-6) offense.

Lanier 9, Johnson 3

GAINESVILLE — Matthew Ramsey struck out nine as Lanier defeated host Johnson 9-3 on Monday.

T.J. Richardson went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, Michael Diaz was 2-for-4 with three runs, Taylor Grant went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Blake Forte was 2-for-3 for the Longhorns (15-6, 8-3).

Buford 11, Banks County 0

BUFORD — Buford scored 10 runs in the first inning as it cruised an 11-0 victory over Banks County on Monday.

Joey Bart, Jake Mayo and Russell Klein each had a double and two RBIs. Josh Bryan go the win, pitching two innings and allowing one hit and striking out two. Kevin Coulter pitched three innings and surrendered one hit and struck out five for the Wolves (17-3, 14-2).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Peachtree Ridge 11, Archer 4

LAWRENCEVILLE — Darby Frisbie scored six goals to lead Peachtree Ridge past Archer 11-4 on Monday.

McKenzie Casal had three goals and Kayla Jones had three assists for the Lions (9-4). Goalkeeper Izzy Ivory had eight saves.

GIRLS TENNIS

Lanier 4, Mountain View 1

LAWRENCEVILLE — Lanier improved its record to 13-1 with a 4-1 victory over Mountain View on Monday.

The Longhorns got wins from No. 2 singles Lauren Byrd and No. 3 singles Carlie Overley. Lyndsey Wong and Jenna Soucia won at No. 1 doubles and Meg McRee and Victoria Inman won at No. 2 doubles.

Providence 4, George Walton Academy 1

DULUTH — Providence finished the regular season with an undefeated record on Monday after the Storm's 4-1 victory over George Walton Academy.

The Storm (8-8, 7-0) go wins from singles players Vani Crist, Alex Schlesener and Mary Elyn Brannon. The No. 1 doubles team of Robin Ferris and Carly Dubay were also victorious.

BOYS TENNIS

Lanier 4, Mountain View 1

LAWRENCEVILLE — Cullen Moss, Kevin Wagner and Kyle Galloway won in singles plays as Lanier defeated Mountain View 4-1 on Monday.

Chris Thai and Armin Zmajevac won at No. 1 doubles for the Longhorns.

Providence 4, George Walton Academy 1

DULUTH — Providence secured the No. 2 seed in the region after its 4-1 win over George Walton Academy on Monday.

Jon North, Emory Williams and Clayton Cheek won at singles play for the Storm (6-10, 6-1), while Daniel Chi and Zach Beavers won at No. 2 doubles.

GIRLS GOLF

Duluth 148, Collins Hill 162

LAWRENCEVILLE — Duluth's Sally Kim shot a 42 to help the Wildcats defeat Collins Hill 148-162 at Northwood Country Club on Monday.

Collins Hill's Ellen Min shot a 47 for the Eagles.
