SNELLVILLE -- Snellville Days Arts and Crafts Festival is less than a month away, but the city is still looking for parade applicants and volunteers.
The new deadline to enter the parade has been extended to Tuesday. Schools, churches, civic organizations and businesses are encouraged to participate in the festivities. This year's theme is "Happy 40th birthday, Snellville Days remembers our past, honoring our present and celebrating our future."
The May 4 parade starts at 10 a.m. with grand marshal Louis Williams of the Atlanta Hawks leading the crowd from the K-Mart parking lot on Wisteria Drive to North Road to Oak Road. The parade ends in front of Snellville City Hall.
If being behind the scenes is more your style, the committee board is also looking for volunteers to help during several shifts before and during the event. The days include 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 30 to May 3 (stuffing welcome bags), 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 4 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 5. You can sign up for different times on these dates.
Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of tasks: advertisement (designing, distributing fliers, posters, finding free places to advertise, etc.), decorating, setup and cleanup, food services (manage and serve event meals and collect volunteer meal tickets), in the general office (copying, stuffing welcome bags, filing, answering phones, etc.), hospitality, distributing welcome bags, information tent for the festival and gate attendants.
The actual festival is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 4 and noon to 5 p.m. May 5.
