GOOD NEWS: Art auction raises thousands for Relay

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett High School's Annual Relay for Life Art Auction recently raised more than $6,200 in the fight against cancer.

The sixth annual auction sold 522 pieces of art and packed the NGHS commons area on March 28.

"Our students have raised more money than any other school in the world," said Debi West, North Gwinnett High School visual art department chair.

West said last year the group raised $107,000 in total.GAC student gets best actor nominationNORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian School's Austin Crute, a junior, was recently nominated for best actor for his portrayal of Scarecrow in "The Wiz."

Crute was one of six nominees for the leading actor award in the 2013 Georgia High School Musical Theater Shuler Awards. He will perform with other nominees during the show at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre at 6 p.m. April 18.

GAC is one of 50 schools participating in the Shuler Awards.

GAC honorable mentions included Sam Case as The Wiz, featured performer honorable mention; Steven Allen, sound design honorable mention; and Jourdan Cobb, choreography honorable mention.
