PREP ROUNDUP: Duluth's Fernandez dominates Norcross in 6-0 win

NORCROSS — Junior Fernandez pitched a complete game shutout, lifting Duluth to a 6-0 win over host Norcross on Wednesday

The Wildcats’ hurler gave up one hit and struck out three to get the win. Dominique Jackson and Fernandez each drove in two runs, while Ryan McClendon had three hits and scored three runs.

Baseball

Archer 14, Central 2

LAWRENCEVILLE — Bryan Whiting collected four hits and drove in a run to help Archer to a 14-2 win over Central Gwinnett in five innings Wednesday.

The Tigers (7-12,4-5) received a strong pitching effort from Nathaniel Howard. The Archer hurler pitched three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out seven Central hitters.

Hayden Pendergraft, Connor Redmond and Brett Self all drove in multiple runs for the Tigers.

Dacula 5, Berkmar 0

DACULA — Dacula defeated Berkmar 5-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA baseball Wednesday night.

Matt Nigh picked up the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out two. Nick Mollica had three hits while Austin Collins and Henry Mesa each contributed two in the winning effort.

Parker Oesterle pitched six innings, allowing just one earned run for the Patriots.

North 4, Mountain View 1

LAWRENCEVILLE — Jordan Brown threw a complete game to help North Gwinnett defeat Mountain View 4-1 Wednesday.

Brown gave up one run and four hits and struck out three Bears batters. Zayne Stringer collected four hits and Blake Sangster had a pair for the Bulldogs (13-6, 6-1).

In the sixth, an RBI single by Robson Evans tied the game for North. The Bulldogs went ahead later in the inning on a two run triple by Cody Short.

Providence Christian 8, Prince Avenue 5

ATHENS — Owen Chasteen and Max Broom pitched a lockdown sixth and seventh innings to help Providence Christian to a 8-5 win over Prince Avenue on Wednesday.

Luke Henderson started for the Storm (9-9,9-2), pitching five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Chasteen came in for the hold and Broom picked up the save with each facing only three hitters and getting three outs.

Jackson Winskie and Justin Brew each had two hits to lead the Providence offense.

Peachtree Ridge 3, Habersham Central 2

SUWANEE — Jonathan Hudson struck out 13, leading Peachtree Ridge to a 3-2 win over Habersham Central on Wednesday.

Drew Wharton, Blake Best and Tyler Haswell each drove in runs for the Lions (11-8, 5-2).

South 11, Shiloh 1

SNELLVILLE — Ryan Patterson pitched a complete game, leading South Gwinnett to a 11-1, six-inning win over Shiloh. Patterson, Mason Hart, Adrian Martinez and Chad Smith each had two RBIs for the Comets (16-3, 9-0).

Eastside 5, Lanier 1

COVINGTON — Lanier only was able to get two hits in a 5-1 loss at Eastside on Wednesday night.

Matthew Ramsay drove in the lone run for the Longhorns (13-6, 6-3).

Westminster 15, Wesleyan 5

ATLANTA — Wesleyan dropped a 15-5 decision to Westminster on Wednesday. Carter Hall homered for the Wolves (11-6, 4-4).

Griffin Bone and Sam Carver each drove in a run for Wesleyan.

Mill Creek 7, Collins Hill 5

SUWANEE — Mill Creek defeated Collins Hill 7-5 in Region 7-AAAAAA action Wednesday night.

Andrew Wise hit a grand slam for the Hawks (12-6, 6-1), while Brandon Harmon had two hits and an RBI. Shane Seckinger picked up the win and Logan Moseley the save for Mill Creek.

Ryan Askew was the losing pitcher for the Eagles (7-13, 3-4) allowing two earned runs. Cole Zabowski had two hits and two RBIs for Collins Hill.

Buford 10, Dawson County 0

BUFORD — Buford defeated Dawson County 10-0 in five innings Wednesday. Conner Bennett pitched a complete game for the win. Hunter Puckett had four hits and four RBIs for the Wolves (15-3, 12-2).

Jake Mayo and Austin Upshaw had three and two hits respectively.

Commerce 4, Hebron Christian 3

COMMERCE — Hebron Christian fell 4-3 to Commerce Wednesday night. Caleb Martin hit a three-run home run for the Lions (7-9, 6-5).

Matthew Carmell pitched four innings of scoreless relief for Hebron Christian.

Girls Tennis

Wesleyan 4, St. Pius 1

NORCROSS — The Wesleyan girls improved to 12-2 on the season with a 4-1 victory over St. Pius on Wednesday.

Sophia Strickland, Savannah Strickland and Sarah Setplage were winners in the singles matches for the Wolves. Kaitlin English and Leila Jordan were victorious in doubles.

Boys Tennis

St. Pius 4, Wesleyan 1

NORCROSS — The Wesleyan boys dropped a 4-1 decision to St. Pius on Wednesday. The doubles team of Cole Brown and Andrew Dorman got the only match win for the Wolves (6-8).

Boys Golf

Alpharetta 150, Wesleyan 166

ALPHARETTA — Alpharetta defeated Wesleyan 150-166 in a golf match played at the Alpharetta Athletic Club.

Nick Cross was the low scorer for the Wolves, carding a 38.

Girls Golf

Wesleyan 94, Mt. Pisgah 104

DAWSONVILLE — Wesleyan defeated Mt. Pisgah 94-104 at Crystal Falls golf club on Wednesday.

Wilton Kennerly led the Wolves with a 46. Camille High and Grace Farley scored 48 and 49 to help Wesleyan to the win.
