PEACHTREE CORNERS -- Caribou Coffee is closing 80 stores across the country, including its location in Peachtree Corners near The Forum.

WXIA-TV reported Monday that the national coffee chain announced it would close 80 stores on April 14 and convert another 88 into Peet's Coffee & Tea locations over the next 12 to 18 months. The closings include the Caribou location on Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree Corners, as well as three other stores in the metro Atlanta area.

The country's second-largest coffee chain behind Starbucks, Caribou Coffee was sold to German company Joh. A. Benckiser in December of last year, WXIA reported. In addition to the four locations closing -- Norcross, North Druid Hills and two in Marietta -- Caribou has locations in Woodstock and Sandy Springs, as well as five in Atlanta and two inside Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the TV station said.

"We look forward to continuing to deliver extraordinary experiences to our guests and fans, and thank everyone for their passion and commitment to Caribou," a statement attributed to Caribou CEO Mike Tattersfield said, in part.

If it's popular (profitable), then why would it be closing? Capitalism FTW.

Too bad. They were better than Starbucks.
