LILBURN — Lilburn police have identified the pedestrian killed while crossing a dark street Sunday night but are not releasing his identity.

A vehicle driving north on a “dimly lit” stretch of Pleasant Hill Road struck the pedestrian — an “unidentified Hispanic male” — at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday as he crossed near Burns Road, officials said. The victim was transported to Eastside Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries, Lilburn Police Capt. Mike Johnson said.

No charges are pending against the driver, but authorities were not immediately able to identify the victim, who was not carrying ID. Originally described as Hispanic and likely between 25 and 35 years old with short black hair and “facial stubble,” authorities were able to confirm his identity with immediate family on Tuesday morning.

“The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of other family members,” Johnson said. “The Lilburn Police Department would like to thank the community’s response to this incident.”

The victim did have a receipt from a Duluth Walmart on his person, leading investigators to surveillance footage that showed the victim parking his truck — an unknown make and model of pickup with a silver toolbox in the bed — and walking into the store. Blurry images from that surveillance camera were released to the public.
