Dacula approves annexation for church

DACULA -- City leaders voted Thursday to approve the annexation and subsequent rezoning of 5.64 acres of land from Gwinnett County into the city.

The owner of the land, Gwinnett Metro Baptist N.C.F., and applicant Nation of Christ Church plan to use the exiting 1,000-square-foot structure for their church building, with an eye toward expansion in the coming years.

Now zoned for office and industrial use, the parcel of land is located near Harbins Road and Ace McMillian Road, near Great Beginnings Day Care Center.

granted for package storeCondition changes and a special-use permit were approved Thursday for a package store to be located on 1.5 acres at 2200 Hurricane Shoals Road. The previous conditions placed on the property (in total, about 15 acres) were put in place in 2006 for a specific site plan. The changes and special-use granted Thursday only apply to the 1.5 acres, not the entire 15 acres.

The package store will have a parapet-style roof, which will allow the builder to install heating and air units on top of the building and not on the ground, where they are susceptible to theft and vandalism.
