Anson Ketchum Betts
Anson Ketchum Betts, 89, died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday March 26, 2013 at Embracing Hospice Inpatient Unit, Snellville, GA from Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
Anson was born March 19, 1924 in Kinderhook, NY, the 3rd son of Anson Gardner Betts and Hattie Alice Ramsey Betts. His childhood was spent in the South. During high school Dad worked at the family business, Taconic Manganese Mines, West Cummington, MA .
In 1944 Anson enlisted in the Navy; shipping out on the USS LCS(L)(3)74 Landing Craft Support. His Navy training enabled him to work in the field of aeronautics his entire life.
In 1946, after active duty, Dad returned to the family mining business and began working at GE in Pittsfield, MA while attending Russell Sage College, Troy, NY. He married Madelyn Margaret Ritter December 26, 1946 in Pittsfield, MA. Anson worked at various aeronautical companies throughout his career. In 1996, he moved to the Atlanta area.
Anson leaves children: Kathleen, Susan, Timothy, Anson Gregory, Barbara and John Peter; two sisters, a sister-in-law, many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Madelyn in 1981. All of us will treasure Dads legacy of love and kindness for the rest of our lives.
